My story, “The Hobo Shack,” won the 2017 Tempe Community Writing Contest for adult fiction.  It is published in the Tempe Writers’ Forum , Volume 3, April 2017 and is available at the Tempe Library or at http://www.tempelibrary.gov/writingcontest.

“Jenny Dreamed of Trains,” a song on an Ann Percival album inspired this story. It reminded me of growing up in rural Illinois. I remembered riding my bike to the creek for a picnic and discovering an old abandoned house near where the train crossed the creek. The setting is real but the rest of the story is invented. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as i enjoyed writing it.
